Job Overview
Our client is a UK-based residential architecture and design practice looking for an experienced Residential Architectural Designer to support the delivery of planning and design projects across London, with a particular focus on South West London boroughs such as Wandsworth, Merton, and Hammersmith & Fulham.
This role is ideal for someone with strong UK residential design experience who can take ownership of projects after the initial client consultation, prepare high-quality drawing sets, liaise confidently with clients, and help move projects through to completion.
The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working to an established drawing style, following internal standards, and producing accurate, well-presented work with minimal hand-holding.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare residential architectural drawings and design sets using CAD or similar design software.
Work from measured survey information, site notes, client briefs, and existing design examples.
Develop design proposals for residential projects, including extensions, refurbishments, alterations, and planning-stage drawings.
Support projects from early design through to submission and completion.
Apply knowledge of London planning requirements, particularly within South West London councils.
Liaise with clients directly to answer questions, provide updates, and clarify design details.
Take ownership of around 80% of project delivery after the initial consultation.
Adapt to the company’s preferred drawing layouts, standards, presentation style, and workflow.
Coordinate with internal team members and external survey support where required.
Ensure drawings are accurate, consistent, and delivered on time.
Help reduce bottlenecks by closing out projects efficiently and independently.
Maintain clear communication with the business owner or senior designer on project progress, risks, and deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
Proven experience in residential architectural design, ideally within the UK market.
Strong understanding of London residential planning processes.
Experience working with South West London councils such as Wandsworth, Merton, and Hammersmith & Fulham would be highly advantageous.
Confident using CAD or similar drawing software to produce professional architectural drawings.
Ability to interpret measured surveys and translate them into accurate design and planning drawings.
Experience preparing drawing packages for residential planning applications.
Strong eye for layout, detail, proportion, and drawing presentation.
Comfortable following an established drawing style and internal standards.
Able to communicate professionally with clients and respond to project-related questions.
Highly organised, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Must have a reliable laptop or workstation, stable internet connection, and a suitable working environment.
Key Attributes
Detail-focused and accurate.
Confident taking ownership of projects.
Comfortable working to deadlines.
Strong design and technical drawing ability.
